WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va. – The St. Bonaventure University golf team completed the first two rounds at the Greenbrier Collegiate Invitational on Monday, finishing the day with a team score of 605.
The Bonnies carded scores of 297 and 308 on the par-70, 7,287 yard Old White TPC Golf Course at The Greenbrier during the opening 36 holes. Bona stands 17th overall.
Freshman Matt Abendroth headlined the day's action with an impressive 71 (+1) in the opening round. Abendroth logged three birdies on the way to his career-best round, easily surpassing a 75 he turned in at the Leo Keenan Invitational in September.
A pair of seniors also were strong in the morning round as both Josh Stauffer and Pat Milkovich finished with 74 (+4).
The second round brought some struggles, however.
Stauffer recorded the best afternoon round for the Brown and White, shooting a three-over 73 to finish at 147 for the day (+7), standing in a tie for 30th on the individual leaderboard.
Abendroth came home with a 79 in the second round to finish at 150 (+10).
Graduate student Darren Simons carded a 78 in both rounds for a 156 total (+16) while freshman Brent Morgan went 81-78/159 (+19). Milkovich recorded an 86 in the afternoon for a 160 tournament total (+20).
Tuesday's final round gets underway at 9 a.m.
