BALTIC, Conn. – Graduate student Darren Simons fired a three-under 69 on Sunday to lead the St. Bonaventure golf team to a sixth place finish out of 13 teams at the 'Til Duty is Done Collegiate Invitational.
The Bonnies had one of their best team rounds of the season, turning in a team score of 291 to finish with an 899 overall for the weekend, moving two spots up the team leaderboard on the final day. Host UConn won the event by nine shots with a team score of 846, ahead of Rhode Island (857), Army (866), Bryant (877) and Hartford (877).
Simons led the way with his lowest round since shooting a 67 during the 2013 Little Three Championship. Simons tied for the tournament lead by sinking seven birdies on the afternoon, finishing in a tie for 10th overall with a one-over 217 (76-72-69).
Senior Pat Milkovich also turned in another strong round, carding a one-under 71 and finishing the day with a birdie on 18 to get into red figures for the day and finish in a tie for 23rd overall (80-72-71/223).
Senior Josh Stauffer logged a 75 to cap off his weekend at 226 (75-76-75, +7). Also in the scoring for the Bonnies were sophomore Corey Long who fired a 76 on Sunday (80-81-76/237) and freshman Matt Abendroth (79-78-87/244).
Next up for Bona is a trip to Orlando for the Atlantic 10 Championship Friday-Sunday.
