ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University men's tennis team came away with a 4-3 win over Colgate on Friday afternoon at the St. Bonaventure Fitness Center. 

With the victory, the Bonnies have claimed their sixth win of the spring, already winning their most matches since the 2013-14 season.

The Bonnies got off to a strong start as they claimed the doubles point. Indra Patwardhan and Lukas Linden Malmberg defeated their opponents in No. 2 doubles, 6-3, and John Rutkowski and Guillermo Garcia won in No. 3 doubles with the same score.

SBU was close to sweeping the three doubles matches as the No. 1 doubles pair of Hector Martinez and Victor Blanco narrowly fell in their match, 7-6.

In singles, Martinez won his No. 2 match convincingly, 6-2, 6-2. Patwardhan came away with a win in No. 3 as he captured a victory in a close first set, 7-6, and grabbed the second, 6-4, to earn the point for the Bonnies. Both Martinez and Patwardhan picked up their eighth singles wins of the spring, which lead the team.

Malmberg rounded out the scoring for the Bonnies with a hard fought, three-set win in No. 5 singles.

The Bonnies will have a quick turnaround as they continue their homestand Sunday with Saint Francis (Pa.) coming to town at 10:00 a.m.
