STORYLINE
The St. Bonaventure baseball team resumes Atlantic 10 play with a long trip to Saint Louis and a three-game set beginning Friday. The Bonnies are 1-2 in A-10 competition after last weekend's trip to Davidson while the Billikens have not played an A-10 game yet after a 15-4 start through non-conference play.
HOLLINS NAMED A-10 PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Junior third baseman David Hollins is the reigning Atlantic 10 Player of the Week after his outstanding start to conference play.
Hollins went 6-for-6 with 8 RBIs on Sunday in a 17-4 win at Davidson. Four of his hits went for extra bases – three doubles and a home run. In all, he has not been retired in his last nine plate appearances, going 7-for-7 with a walk and was hit by a pitch during that span.
HOT STARTS TO A-10 PLAY
Multiple Bonnies got off to strong starts in Atlantic 10 competition, thanks to an offensive explosion on Sunday that saw the team score 17 runs on 19 hits.
- David Hollins hit .667 (8-for-12) at Davidson with two home runs and nine RBIs and a nearly insane 1.417 slugging percentage.
- Cole Peterson went 7-for-12 during the weekend for a cool .583 batting average, smacking three doubles and a home run for a 1.083 slugging percentage.
- T.J. Baker also hit his first home run with the Bonnies, knocking in three runs.
ONES FOR THE RECORD BOOKS
Hollins' six hits Sunday were the most since Randy Moley went 6-for-7 vs. Boston College in 2008 and his eight RBIs in a single game are believed to be a program record. It was another game for the program record books for several reasons:
- The 17 runs scored by St. Bonaventure were the most by the Bonnies in an Atlantic 10 game since a 17-12 win vs. Temple on May 22, 2010.
- The 17 runs were the most for the Bonnies in any game since a 24-6 win over Ohio on March 15, 2014. Their 19 hits also were the most since having 19 in a 12-inning game at Dayton on April 17, 2016.
- Last Sunday continued a trend of record-setting events in the early season: Through 13 games, the Bonnies have set the individual game record for hits and RBIs as well as what is believed to be the longest game in program history, an 18-inning game vs. Maine earlier this month.
LUCKY NUMBER SEVEN
Senior Taishi Terashima enters the Saint Louis series owning an active seven-game hitting streak. That is tied for the longest on the team this season – Ryan MacCarrick also had a seven-game hit streak during the Bonnies' trip to Florida.
PERFECT WITH PHILLIPS
The Bonnies improved to 4-0 on the season in games in which junior Aaron Phillips starts on the mound after Sunday's game at Davidson. Phillips matched a career high with seven strikeouts at Davidson and was still surpassing 90 mph on the radar gun in the eighth inning as his afternoon came to a close.
RYAN'S ROLLIN'
Junior Ryan MacCarrick has made a big early impact in his first season with the Bonnies. He enters the SLU series hitting a team-best .348 with a .444 on-base percentage.
NEXT UP
Bona is slated for its home-opener Tuesday vs. Buffalo in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at Fred Handler Park, weather permitting.
