The Starting Five Notes + One
1. St. Bonaventure enters the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship Tournament as the No. 5 seed and will face the winner of Wednesday's UMass-Saint Joseph's opening round game on Thursday at 2:30. The Bonnies look to win their second A-10 Tournament title, reach 20 wins for the second year in a row and continue their push toward a postseason berth.
2. St. Bonaventure went 11-7 in the regular season, the program's third year in a row with double digit A-10 wins, which is a new program standard.
3. The Bonnies are led by their All-Conference backcourt of Jaylen Adams and Matt Mobley, who combine to average almost 40 points per game. Adams ranks 23rd nationally and second in the A-10 in scoring (20.8) while Mobley ranks fourth in the A-10 at 18.9 points per game. Between them, they have 29 games of 20 points or more and have made 156 three-pointers.
4. Adams does much more than just score from his point guard position. He leads the A-10 and ranks seventh in the country in assists (6.6 per game). Adams' 185 assists so far this season rank second in school history. He also ranks second in the A-10 and 22nd nationally in steals (2.2).
5. Senior forward Denzel Gregg, who has played in 112 career games and helped St. Bonaventure to 77 wins, is among the A-10 leaders in rebounding, blocks and field goal percentage. Gregg has eight double-doubles this year, and the Bonnies are 16-3 when he scores in double figures.
6. The Bonnies' "next three" of junior swingman Idris Taqqee, senior forward David Andoh and freshman forward Josh Ayeni are all capable scorers, combining to average 20.8 points per game. Taqqee is the team's unsung player, with the ability to impact every line of the stat sheet as well as defend the perimeter and the paint.
A-10 Tournament Recent History
St. Bonaventure has made it to at least the quarterfinals of the A-10 Tournament each of the last three years and four out of the last five seasons. The Bonnies won their only A-10 Tournament title in 2012 in Atlantic City, N.J., then reached the semifinals in 2014 and the quarterfinals both of the past two years.
Chance For Another 20-Win Season
Entering the Atlantic 10 Championship with 19 wins, St. Bonaventure has an opportunity to reach the 20-win mark for the 15th time in its history and earn the first back-to-back 20-win seasons since 1977-78.
