STORYLINE
The No. 10 St. Bonaventure University men's tennis team is set to begin competition at the 2017 Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championships.
The Brown and White will compete against No. 7 Saint Joseph's at 12:30 p.m.
Saint Joseph's and St. Bonaventure met earlier this season on April 1. The Hawks came out on top, 6-1.
ABOUT THE BONNIES
- The St. Bonaventure Bonnies put together one of the most successful seasons in the program's recent history with a roster with one graduating senior and four newcomers. The Bonnies' eight match wins this season are the program's most in a single season since the 2010-11 season.
- This season, the Bonnies saw the most consistent production out of the No. 2 spot in singles as Hector Martinez won 10 matches at the position, the most of any Bonnie in a single spot.
- Victor Blanco plays in the No. 1 singles position for the Bonnies and earned seven wins this spring – two of which against Atlantic 10 opponents.
- Indra Patwardhan and Lukas Linden Malmberg put together strong first campaigns with the Bonnies, as both earned Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors throughout the season. The two tied for a team-most 14 wins, Patwardhan mostly playing in the No. 4 spot while Malmberg saw most of his time in the No. 5 position.
- In doubles action, Blanco and Martinez predominately played in the No. 1 spot for the Bonnies this year, claiming four wins as a duo, two against A-10 opponents. Patwardhan and Malmberg were mainstays in the No. 2 spot, finding the most success for the Bonnies in doubles action with five wins. Guillermo Garcia and John Rutkowski saw most of the No. 3 action as a pair, claiming a 4-6 record on the year.
ABOUT SAINT JOSEPH'S
- The Saint Joseph's Hawks went 13-10 this season, and 4-5 vs. A-10 opponents. The Hawks found wins in five of the last seven matches.
- Tim Stierle plays in the No. 1 position for the Hawks and worked an 8-4 record in the top spot.
- In No. 2 singles, Kyle Chalmers accented Stierle well toward the top of the lineup as he managed a 7-4 record.
- The Hawks run out a strong lineup top to bottom, as Peter Dewitt's 9-2 record in No. 6 action is good for the most wins on the team in a single position.
- Chalmers and Stierle teamed up for the most wins in No. 1 doubles with a 6-1 mark.
