BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The St. Bonaventure University softball team came out on top over Little Three rival Canisius, 8-2, Wednesday afternoon.

Desiree Gonzalez went 3-for-4 to lead the Bona offense, scoring three runs while knocking the tie-breaking solo home run in the fifth.

Alexandra Piergustavo went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored to help the Bonnies improve their season record vs. Canisius to 2-1.

The Bonnies jumped out to an early lead with a pair of runs in the first inning. Gonzalez led off the game with a single, and later came on to score on an RBI base knock from Piergustavo. 

Later in the frame, Emma Borysevicz lined a single that brought home Piregustavo, putting St. Bonaventure up, 2-0.

Canisius then tied it up with a pair of runs in the fourth on back-to-back RBI hits.

But the Griffs' lead would be short-lived as Gonzalez stepped in with one out in the top of the fifth and drove the go-ahead home runs, putting St. Bonaventure ahead, 3-2.

The Bonnies broke the game open with four runs in the sixth to go up, 7-2. 

Kelly Farrell drove home Nicole Antonacci with a single, and Kiera Lorenzo came on to score on a throwing error while Farrell stole second. Farrell later came on to score on a throwing error as Alexandra Deal was attempting to steal second base. Gonzalez rounded out the scoring as she came home on an Alissa Karjel walk.

In the top of the seventh, the Bonnies extended their lead as Elizabeth Enovitch drove home Deal with a single down the right field line.

Josie Borysevicz went all seven innings for the Bonnies to earn the win, striking out a career-best eight hitters. 

The decision goes down as Borysevicz's sixth win of the season and 10th complete game.

The Bonnies' 12 hits today are tied for the second most this season.

Up next, the Bonnies will resume conference play and travel to Rhode Island for a three-game set.
