ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team overcame a rainy Saturday morning to defeat Saint Joseph's, 2-1, at Joyce Field in the first game of a three-game series.
The Hawks led the Bonnies, 4-0, in the top of the fourth inning before the game was suspended due to inclement weather.
GAME 1 – St. Bonaventure 2, Saint Joseph's 1
The Bonnies grabbed the first lead of the day in the bottom of the third when Karena Recrosio brought home Sawyer Burke on a sacrifice fly.
The Hawks loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the fourth, but Bonnies starter Ava Lomelin worked out of the jam, preserving the lead.
Bona's pushed its lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single off the bat of Lauren Dundon, scoring Kymora Wang from second.
Saint Joseph's pulled one back in the top of the seventh on an RBI double, but Kendall Stull was able to shut down the rally, recording her sixth save of the season.
Lomelin improves to 4-4 in the circle with the win, striking out two and scattering five hits over 6.2 innings.

The Bonnies and Hawks will resume game two of the series Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m. Saint Joseph's currently leads the Bonnies, 4-0, in the top of the fourth inning.
