ORLANDO, Fla. -- The No. 10 St. Bonaventure University men's tennis team took the first point with a pair of doubles victories, but four singles wins gave No. 7 Saint Joseph's a victory in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Championship.

Having dropped the No. 1 doubles match, Hector Martinez and Hristo Hristov captured a 6-4 win in the No. 3 spot for the Bonnies, leaving the No. 2 match to decide the point.

John Rutkowski and Guillermo Garcia delivered and won by a 6-4 score as well to put the Brown and White up, 1-0, heading into singles action.

But, four singles wins for the Hawks sent them ahead of St. Bonaventure to advance in the A-10 tournament.

Rutkowski gave his opponent a close first set, but narrowly fell, 7-6 (6).

St. Bonaventure ended the 2017 season with eight match wins, the program's most in a single season since the 2010-11 campaign.

Indra Patwardhan and Lukas Linden Malmberg tied for the most singles wins on the team with 14 in each of their first seasons with the Bonnies.
