ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Visiting Buffalo struck early, then added two second half goals for a 3-0 victory over the St. Bonaventure University women's soccer team in front of a large crowd Friday night at the Marra Athletics Complex.
With the game just over four minutes old, Kara Daly found the back of the net for the Bulls with a shot flicked over the head of the Bona keeper.
The 1-0 spread remained until the second half.
Early in the second stanza it appeared as though the Bonnies would find the equalizer. In the 50th minute, junior Mariah Marrero sent a header wide of the net that resulted in a volley in the box. The rebound found its way to freshman Alex Thompson who ripped a rocket just wide. Later in the first 10 minutes of the half, Marrero had another chance with a header shot that was blocked by the Bulls defense.
Buffalo (2-4-1) doubled its lead at the 69:36 mark off a shot from just outside the 18-yard box from Moira Petrie. Her shot drilled off the crossbar and fell straight down, rolling over the goal line for a 2-0 score.
St. Bonaventure had another opportunity three minutes later when sophomore Sydney Cerza created a great chance with a beautiful move to the right post. She dribbled around her defender, threw on the breaks to create space and passed to junior Jessica Scruggs right in front. The shot from point-blank range was turned away by Bulls keeper Laura Dougall, however.
The Bonnies quickly turnaround for a trip to play at Bryant on Sunday afternoon. Game time in Rhode Island is slated for 1 p.m.
