UMass Downs Women's Soccer, 3-0

Box Score

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Visiting UMass started fast in each the first and second half en route to a 3-0 victory Thursday night over the St. Bonaventure University women's soccer team at the Marra Athletics Complex.

In the first minutes, it was the Bonnies who started strong.

Just 45 seconds in, Alex Thompson received a cross at the top of the box, working her way to the right of the net before firing a shot right on. Her effort forced a leaping save that was punched away by UMass goalkeeper Cassidy Babin.

The momentum pendulum quickly back in favor of the Minutewomen, however.

In the third minute, Jenny Hipp gathered a loose ball, flicking ahead through two defenders to Gabrielle Kenyon who shot into an open net for the 1-0 lead.

UMass would take command at the 11:32 mark when Hipp would drive a low shot to the left of the Bonnies keeper for a 2-0 advantage.

The visitors started out the second half much in the way they began the first, striking for a third score off a corner kick in the 47th minute.

St. Bonaventure fought for a rally, mustering chances following consecutive corner kicks just over 50 minutes in. Those efforts resulted in a header just above the crossbar by Sydney Cassagnol and a shot ripped wide by Jessica Scruggs.

Late in the game, the Bonnies rang the crossbar on a shot attempt from Danielle Vis.

Bona finished with 14 shot attempts for the night while Lauren Malcolm racked up six saves in net.

The Bonnies are back in action Sunday at George Washington. That contest is scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m.
