DAVIDSON, N.C. – The St. Bonaventure University women's soccer team captured a hard-fought 2-1 victory at Davidson Sunday afternoon.
Graduate forward Cristina Torres continues her strong season of play by registering her Atlantic 10 Conference-leading eighth and ninth goals of the season.
In the 15th minute, sophomore forward McKenna Robinson sent a beautiful cross to Torres in the box, which she was able to head into the back of the net for her first goal of the game. In the second half, Torres slipped by a defender in the 60th minute and made a pass to freshman forward Chanel Alexander who then made a nice return pass to lead Torres, which allowed her to net her second goal of the game.
The Bonnies (5-6-3, 3-3-0 A-10) recorded three shots in the first half. Torres, Alexander, and junior midfielder Christine Napoli each tallied a shot. Freshman goalkeeper Chiara Gottinger had three saves in the first half.
The Wildcats (4-8-2, 0-5-1 A-10) were able to strike in the second half with a goal from junior forward Remi White in the 80th minute with the assist coming from junior defender Hannah Casey. White recorded four of Davidson's 13 shots in the game, while freshman forward Aleia Gisolfi-McCready tallied two shots.
St. Bonaventure finished the game with seven shots. Torres had both of her shots on goal, while Alexander recorded two shots.
Gottinger was huge down the stretch of the second half to preserve the lead and the eventual victory for the Bonnies. She continues her strong season in net finishing the game with five saves.
