Explorers Get Past Bonnies, 1-0

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team fell to La Salle, 1-0, on a late second-half goal Saturday evening at the Marra Athletics Complex.

The Explorers broke through on the scoreboard in the 79th minute when Omari Cotterell curled in a shot from the left side of the box, breaking a scoreless tie with what would be the game-winner.

Jaaziel Thompson had a chance to tie it late for the Bonnies in the 83rd minute when he got a head to a corner kick delivery, but his shot was turned away by the La Salle goalkeeper Mitch Foster.

La Salle (4-8-0, 1-4-0 A-10) would possess the ball and run out the clock to preserve the win.

Fredrik Hansen also had a chance to get the Bonnies on the board in the second half, firing a shot on net in the 77th minute that forced Foster to make a diving stop.

The Bonnies (3-8-1, 2-3-0 A-10) and Explorers found themselves scoreless after the first half of play, but both teams had chances to score before intermission.

In the 25th minute, Joshua Pulla created a one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but could not get his shot past the Explorers keeper.

Bona's goalkeeper Trevor Wilson made a leaping save on a La Salle attempt later in the half, punching the ball over the crossbar in the 41st minute to keep La Salle off the board.

Wilson went on to make five saves on the night and now has five or more saves in five out of the six games he has started this season.

Thompson and Hansen finished with two shots apiece to lead the Brown and White.

The Bonnies are back in action Wednesday, Oct. 20 on the road at Duquesne. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
