Wilson's 12 Saves Not Enough as Bonnies Fall Short at Duquesne, 2-1

PITTSBURGH – The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team fell at Duquesne, 2-1, Wednesday night as the host Dukes broke a second half tie to gain three Atlantic 10 points.

The Dukes (7-5-1, 3-2-1 A-10) opened the scoring in the 34th minute on a goal from Ryan Goodhew.

St. Bonaventure would soon tie the contest, however.

Isaac Boamah checked in for the visitors following the Duquesne goal and immediately made an impact.

The senior pounced on a deflection off a Dukes defender and sped through the back line, firing a shot which went off the post and into the net to tie the game as the Bonnies gained momentum.

After heading to intermission knotted at 1-1, the Atlantic 10's leading goal scorer, Maxi Hopfer put Duquesne back on top with his goal in the 56th minute.

The Bonnies (3-9-1, 2-4-0 A-10) had a chance to tie the game late as Joshua Pulla crossed a ball into Matthew Wrobel whose shot was punched just over the bar by Duquesne's goalkeeper in the 87th minute.

That would be the best opportunity for the Bonnies to force extra time.

Trevor Wilson kept Duquesne from adding a third goal with a kick save right in front of net in the 60th minute and then added a diving save in the 77th minute. Wilson finished with a career-high 12 saves.

Wrobel led the Bonnies with five shots on the night while Cuneyt Vardar registered three chances.

The Bonnies are back in action Saturday at Dayton. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. in the Buckeye State.
