Box Score AMHERST, Mass. – Fifth-seeded St. Bonaventure University women's soccer team fell 5-1 at fourth-seeded UMass in the Atlantic 10 quarterfinals Sunday afternoon.
The Bonnies (7-8-4) scored an early goal off the foot of sophomore forward
McKenna Robinson to seize early momentum on the road.
In the fifth minute of the game, Robinson dribbled past a defender into the top of the box and ripped a shot over the UMass goalkeeper to give the Bonnies a 1-0 lead.
The host Minutewomen would quickly respond, however.
UMass would even the score at one in the 11
th minute when freshman forward Ashley Lamond scored with an assist from senior forward Mia Carazza.
The Minutewomen (10-5-4) would take the lead when junior defender Serena Ahmed scored a goal in the 29
th minute off of an assist from Lamond.
After taking a 2-1 lead to halftime, UMass added three goals in the second half to secure its victory.
Carazza scored her second goal of the game in the 56
th minute, while junior midfielder Olivia Gouldsbury scored the Minutewomen's fourth goal of the game in the 83
rd minute to put the game on ice, with UMass adding one more in the 89
th minute.
The Bonnies were outshot by UMass, 23-9.
Graduate forward
Cristina Torres led the way with two shots for the Bonnies, while Lamond tallied five shots to lead UMass.
Freshman goalkeeper
Chiara Gottinger recorded eight saves on the afternoon, bringing her Atlantic 10-leading total to 119 saves on the year.
St. Bonaventure finished a tremendous season with seven wins on the year, five of those triumphs coming in conference play. The Bonnies defied preseason predictions after being selected last in the preseason A-10 coaches' poll, returning to the conference playoffs for the first time since 2013.
