NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The St. Bonaventure University women's soccer team had three players earn Atlantic 10 All-Conference accolades, conference officials announced Thursday.
Cristina Torres,
Chiara Gottinger, and
Chanel Alexander were all honored by the Atlantic 10 Conference.
Graduate forward
Cristina Torres was selected to the Atlantic 10 First Team and the All-Academic Team for her tremendous play on the field and in the classroom.
On the season Torres led the Atlantic 10 and was 11
th in the NCAA with 13 goals. Also, she led the A-10 in shot accuracy (0.633), and was tied for first in game-winning goals with four.
The San Juan, Puerto Rico native ranked second in the A-10 in points (26), points per game (1.37), and goals per game (0.68).
With 13 goals on the season, Torres stands seventh all-time in single season St. Bonaventure women's soccer goals history. Torres is the first St. Bonaventure first team selection since Shannon Van Ripper in 2012.
Torres was also selected to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team by posting a 3.7 cumulative GPA, while pursuing her MBA.
Freshman goalkeeper
Chiara Gottinger earned a spot on the Atlantic 10 Second Team and the All-Rookie Team.
In her first year with the program, Gottinger ranked first in the A-10 and sixth in the NCAA among Division I goalkeepers with 119 saves, a total that stands 13
th in Bonas single season history.
The Pirching am Traubenberg, Austria native also leads the A-10 and is fourth in the country in goalie minutes played (1811:03), and saves per game (6.26).
Gottinger is also second in the A-10 in save percentage (.832), and third in the conference with six shutouts.
With her six shutouts on the season Gottinger ties the St. Bonaventure women's soccer program record for season shutouts, previously shared by Brooke Lang (1989-1990) 1990 and Nicole Markert (2010).
Freshman midfielder
Chanel Alexander was selected to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team.
Alexander played in all 19 games, starting 18 while tallying 1,214 minutes.
The Rochester, N.Y. native scored her first collegiate goal against Robert Morris in her third career game played.
In her debut season, Alexander was second on the team in assists (two), shots attempted (31), and shots on goal (14).
Alexander and Gottinger are the first Bonnies' players selected to the All-Rookie Team since Sabrina Sousa-Sampson in 2016. This is the first time since 2008 that multiple players have been selected to the All-Rookie Team.
All three of these players were pivotal parts in helping the Bonnies earn their first appearance in the conference playoffs since 2013.
The Bonnies finished 7-8-4 overall, 5-4-1 in the conference, and earned the fifth seed in the Atlantic 10 Championships.
