Box Score ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – A shorthanded St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team suffered its first defeat of the season, 1-0, to Duquesne Saturday afternoon at the Marra Athletics Complex.
Saturday served as the first A-10 games for both teams.
Duquesne broke through on the scoreboard in the 63rd minute thanks to a goal from Max Hopfer off an assist from Nate Dragisich.
The Bonnies were unable to find an equalizer as Duquesne (1-1, 1-0 A-10) earned a tough Atlantic 10 victory.
It was a slow first half for both teams as the contest remained scoreless through the first 45 minutes of action.
Fredrik Hansen ripped a low shot on net in the 26th minute, but it missed to the right of the net.
The Bonnies (3-1, 0-1 A-10) were shown a red card in the 35th minute, forcing the hosts to play shorthanded the rest of the way.
Isaac Boamah was next to try and get the Bonnies on the board in the 38th minute on a breakaway, but could not put the shot on net as it sailed wide.
Duquesne looked to break the deadlock in the 40th minute when Dragisich's shot was denied by the post.
Hansen led the Bonnies with two shots on the afternoon while Shea Currey, Cuneyt Vardar, Thomas Yegbor, Luca Nicastro and Boamah each registered a shot.
Justyn Sandhu had a quiet afternoon in net, giving up just the one goal and stopping one Duquesne shot.
Duquesne held a 9-7 edge in total shots while the teams were even in corner kick attempts, 7-7.
The Bonnies are back in action Wednesday, March 17 at home against Saint Louis. That game is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
