DAYTON, Ohio – The St. Bonaventure University women's soccer team fell to Dayton, 5-1, Thursday evening.
Marlee Taylor put the Flyers up 1-0 in the third minute and Dayton never looked back. The Flyers added a second goal in the 13th minute and a third in the 35th minute to take a commanding lead.
Amber Achladis gave the Bonnies (0-5, 0-5 A-10) their first goal of the season as she hit a free kick from 30 yards out that bounced through a crowd and into the net, cutting the Bona deficit to 3-1 right before halftime as the clock ticked down to zero.
Unfortunately for the Bonnies, though, Dayton would take the momentum back out of intermission.
The Flyers (6-3-1, 3-1-1 A-10) added to their lead in the 56th minute as Itala Gemelli deposited a pass from Marlee Taylor into the back of the net. The hosts added a fifth tally 11 minutes later as Gemelli scored her second of the night.
Dayton owned a 24-7 margin in shots, placing 13 on net, and a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Freshman Mackenzie Nolan made eight saves for the Bonnies.
The Bonnies and the Flyers are back in action Sunday afternoon in Ohio. Kickoff is slated for 2:00 p.m.
