ANNAPOLIS, MD – Anastasia Gubanova and Paula Velilla each advanced to the consolation finals in the first competition of the season for the St. Bonaventure University women's tennis team at the three-day Navy Invitational this weekend.

Gubanova bounced back from a first-round loss against Jillian Taggert from Navy, winning her next two matches to reach the "A" singles consolation finals. She bested Lehigh's Ella Imhof in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5, and then took down Lara Kaplan from Binghamton, 6-1, 1-6, 10-3, before falling in the finals in three sets to Abigail Moghtader from Mary Washington.

Velilla needed just one win to secure a spot in the "D" singles consolation final, defeating Binghamton's Julia Gumieniak in three sets, 2-6, 7-5, 10-1. The senior fell, however, in the finals to Megha Dania from Lehigh, 6-3, 6-3.

Also winning in singles action for the Bonnies at Navy were Amelia Haley and Alexandra Jansson. Haley picked up a win after Bucknell's Dax Seidlin retired in the second set due to injury. Jansson earned a pair of singles triumphs in her collegiate debut, first beating Parvarti Shanker from Navy, 6-4, 2-6, 11-9. She then beat Monmouth's Lenien Jamir in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.

The pair of Emily Stanley and Amara Young earned a Bonnies victory in doubles action, beating Hanna Kimmey and Riley Smith from Mary Washington, 8-5.

The Bonnies are back in action Saturday, Sept. 18 at the UB Duals.
