The St. Bonaventure University women's soccer team is set to travel to George Mason on Thursday, Sept. 30 at 7:00 p.m. and then will return home for a matchup against Saint Joe's at 1:00 p.m.
FIRST COLLEGIATE GOAL
Sophomore forward Alexa Martinos picked a great time to score the first goal of her college career, as it was the game-winner at Fordham on Sunday. In the 81st minute she was able to take a free kick that deflected off of the goalkeeper and dribble past the keeper for a goal that gave the Bonnies a 2-1 victory. Martinos was selected as one of the GoBonnies.com Athletes of the Week.
STILL ATOP THE A-10
The Bonnies continue to get strong play from graduate forward Cristina Torres. Torres leads the Atlantic 10 in goals with six and points with 12. Also, Torres is second in the Atlantic 10 with 0.55 goals per game. Torres already has the most goals in a season by a Bonnies player since 2015 when Abby Maiello posted 10 scores and Lauren Hill struck for seven.
TWO-TIME ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
For a second-time this season, freshman goalkeeper Chiara Gottinger has been named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week. On the season Gottinger ranks first in the Atlantic 10 and third in the NCAA in saves with 78. Also, she leads the A-10 in save percentage (0.857), saves per game (7.09), and goalie minutes played (1058:10). To earn her A-10 honors this week, Gottinger tallied 12 saves with a .857 save percentage and tallied the win at Fordham.
ABOUT GEORGE MASON
The Patriots are coming off a 4-1 loss against VCU on Sunday. George Mason is led by midfielder Grace Hotaling with eight points, four assists, and 16 shots attempted. Senior defender Kolbrun Eyjolfsdottir leads the team with three goals. In net senior goalkeeper Louisa Moser has started ten games and recorded 36 saves. George Mason was projected to finish 11th in the Atlantic 10 preseason polls. St. Bonaventure defeated George Mason 1-0 at home in their last matchup in 2019.
ABOUT SAINT JOSEPH'S
The Hawks defeated Duquesne, 2-0, at home on Sunday and will take on Dayton this Thursday. Sophomore Rachel Brown is tied for the team lead with four points and two goals with junior midfielder Ashley Orendac. The team is led with two assists by sophomore midfielder Nicole Angelini and senior forward Izzy Greene. Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Cappelletti has tallied 52 saves on the year. Saint Joe's was selected to finish 8th in the Atlantic 10 preseason polls. In their last matchup in 2019 Saint Joe's was able to pull off a 1-0 victory at St. Bonaventure.
UP NEXT
The Bonnies will be back on the road to take on Davidson on Sunday, Oct. 10. The game is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start time.
