Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Noah Bartholomew, Athletics Graduate Assistant

Bonnies Fall at George Mason, 1-0, on Early Second Half Goal

FAIRFAX, Va. – The St. Bonaventure University women's soccer team fell 1-0 at George Mason Thursday night. 

George Mason was able to break the scoreless tie in the 51st minute with a goal from freshman midfielder Hailey Martinez, which was assisted by junior midfielder
Grace Hotaling. 

The Bonnies (3-6-3, 1-3-0 A-10) finished the first half with four shots with two shots on goal. In the 26th minute freshman midfielder Chanel Alexander took a shot in the box that went off the crossbar and into the hands of the GMU goalkeeper, while junior forward Clare Davis had her shot in the 30th minute go off the crossbar. Bonnies goalkeeper Chiara Gottinger had a solid first half with four saves. 
The Patriots (4-8, 2-2-0 A-10) were led by senior midfielder Sara Chontosh who had three shots in the first half. George Mason recorded 10 shots with four of them being on goal. Senior goalkeeper Louisa Moser finished the half with two saves. 

St. Bonaventure had a scoring chance late off of a free kick. In the 87th minute junior midfielder Amber Achladis was able to get the ball in the box off of a deflection from the free kick and take a shot that ended up being blocked by a George Mason defender. 

George Mason outshot the Bonnies, 19-13. The Patriots were led in shots by Chontosh with four, and senior forward Dacheka Kolcum. Alexander, Davis, Achladis, graduate forward Cristina Torres, and junior midfielder Christine Napoli all registered two shots for Bonaventure. 

The Bonnies will be back at home on Sunday to face Saint Joseph's. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Marra Athletics Complex.
