ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure got back to basics Saturday afternoon, limiting Saint Joseph's defensively for most of the day while humming on offense to score an 80-69 victory at the Reilly Center.
Jalen Adaway led the way with 22 points, surpassing 1,000 for his collegiate career. The redshirt senior went 7-for-11 from the floor and his aggressive play led to seven fouls called on the Hawks during his drives to the basket.
Jaren Holmes posted 20 points, hitting his first seven field goal tries before finishing 7-for-8 on the day including 6-for-6 at the foul stripe.
Kyle Lofton achieved another career milestone, surpassing 500 career assists while totaling 13 points and four helpers.
With the win, St. Bonaventure improved to 12-5 overall and 4-2 in Atlantic 10 action.
The two teams exchanged four lead changes and a pair of ties early and were deadlocked after eight minutes, but a 13-2 run from the Bonnies put the hosts ahead by double digits, 29-19.
Saint Joseph's (9-11, 3-6) responded with a 10-2 break of its own to close within two before a running layup from Holmes made it a 33-29 Bonnies lead at the break.
It quickly became a tie game, 35-35, as the second half began, but the Bonnies established control by outscoring their foes by a 14-3 margin over the next four minutes of action.
From there, the Bonnies kept the Hawks' deficit at double digits for nearly the entirety of the contest.

QUOTES FROM HEAD COACH MARK SCHMIDT
"I thought our defensive intensity was better today and we were more connected defensively and getting the ball into the paint. Saint Joe's is a much-improved team and I thought we did a good job locking up their key players. We definitely took a step in the right direction."
"We made it difficult on Hall and Funk, who are two of the more talented players in the conference. We got some deflections, steals and long rebounds. We did a good job attacking off of long rebounds."
"You're always going to have ups and downs through the season, and Jaren puts in the work to get better every day."
"It's a great accomplishment for Jalen to get 1,000 points and it tells me that we have a good group of guys because everybody was really happy for him."
