The GoBonnies.com Athletes of the Week presented by CPL for the week ending Oct. 16 are men's tennis freshman
Connor Turner and women's soccer graduate forward
Cristina Torres.
Â
Torres scored the eventual game-winner for the Bonnies early in the contest Sunday afternoon against Richmond.
Â
In the 22nd minute of the game, Torres was fouled inside the box, which led to her lining up a penalty kick past the Spiders' goalkeeper to take a 1-0 lead going into the final 45 minutes of play.
Â
This score helped St. Bonaventure secure its first conference victory of the season.
Â
The San Juan, Puerto Rico native is tied with freshman
Ami Komori for the team lead in goals with three.
Â
Turner turned in an impressive weekend at the Bloomsburg Invitational last weekend, going 3-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles.
A native of Bournemouth, United Kingdom, Turner teamed up with
Luke Riemann in doubles action, earning a 6-3 victory over a team from Lafayette in the first round. In the next round, the duo captured a second straight 6-3 win over a team from Lafayette. In their third match, Turner and Riemann blanked a pair from Bloomsburg, 6-0.
Turner did not drop a set over three singles matches on the weekend. He bested Christian Banti from Saint Francis (PA), 6-2, 6-2, in the first round and then took down Josh Wolfe from Lafayette, 4-0, 4-0, in his second match.
In his third and final singles match of the weekend, Turner defeated Saint Francis' Andrew Teixeira, 4-0, 4-3.
