Men's Soccer Visits Saint Joseph's Saturday

The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team wraps up the road portion of its 2022 Atlantic 10 schedule with a matchup against Saint Joseph's in Philadelphia Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 5:00 p.m. at Sweeney Field.

BONNIES NOTES

  • The Bonnies are coming off a 1-1 draw last Saturday on the road at UMass. The Minutemen jumped ahead early on in the contest with a goal in the 15th minute. Sophomore Umechi Akuazaoku, however, netted the game-tying goal in the 22nd minute off a feed from Rafael Pereira, earning the Bonnies a point in the Atlantic 10 standings.
  • Akuazaoku has scored a pair of goals on the season, scoring the opening goal in a 2-1 victory at Niagara Sept. 21. He ranks third on the Bonnies this season with four points.
  • Junior goalkeeper Jules Dechert ranks second in the Atlantic 10 in saves per game, stopping 4.6 shots a contest in his first season with the Bonnies. Dechert has started eight games in net, making 37 saves.
  • Entering the weekend, the Bonnies are on the outside looking in on the Atlantic 10 Tournament. The Bonnies need to win both of their remaining contests to remain in contention.

ABOUT SAINT JOSEPH'S

  • Saint Joseph's enters Saturday's contest with an overall record of 2-5-8 and are 1-1-4 in Atlantic 10 play. The Hawks currently sit in a tie for the last A-10 Tournament spot in eighth place along with Fordham. Both teams have seven points entering the final two weeks of the season. Saint Joseph's was picked to finish in the eighth spot in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll.
  • The Hawks are coming off a 0-0 draw Tuesday evening at Loyola (MD) and tied Fordham, 1-1, last Saturday in Philadelphia. Saint Joseph's earned its lone Atlantic 10 win over Davidson, 3-1, Oct. 1. The Hawks lead the NCAA with eight draws this season.
  • Omry Perel and Garrett Lyons lead the way offensively for the Hawks. Perel has registered a team-best seven points on two goals and three assists while Lyons has six points with a score and a team-high four assists. Blake Driehuis also has a pair of scores for the Hawks this season.
  • In net, Luis Ludosan has made 12 starts, making 44 saves for a 81.5 save percentage.

UP NEXT

  • The Bonnies conclude the regular season on home turf with a matchup against VCU Saturday, Oct. 29. That game is scheduled for kickoff at 4:00 p.m.
