Wrobel’s Goal Gives Bonnies 1-1 Draw vs. No. 16 Dayton

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Matthew Wrobel scored his sixth goal of the season to lead the St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team to a 1-1 draw with No. 16 Dayton Wednesday evening at the Marra Athletics Complex.

The Bonnies (3-6-2, 0-3-1 A-10) battled a Dayton team that has not suffered a loss since last Nov. 6.

With time running down, Wrobel was to net the game-tying goal in the 77th minute.

C.J. Takatch played a ball into Peter Massaquoi who quickly found Wrobel in the scoring area and the sophomore forward buried the shot into the back of the net. Massaquoi registered an assist in the second straight game while Takatch tallied his first point of the season.

The Flyers (8-0-2, 2-0-2 A-10) were able to jump ahead in the 29th minute when Andy Sanchez scored, giving Dayton a 1-0 lead.

Wednesday marked the first point for the Bonnies against a ranked team since 2017 when the Bonnies beat No. 22 VCU, 2-1, in the regular season finale.

Bona's goalkeeper Jules Dechert stood tall in net, making seven saves in the contest.

Takatch, Xaver Erhlich, Haji Shee, Dean Mercer, Aleksander Mihov and Umechi Akuazaoku each registered a shot for the Bonnies.

The Bonnies return to action Saturday, Oct. 8 against George Washington at 4:00 p.m. Prior to kickoff Saturday, the Bonnies will honor graduating seniors John Engerman, C.J. Takatch, Luca Nicastro, Peter Massaquoi and Hunter Allenbaugh.
