Colonials Power Past Bonnies, 3-0

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team fell to George Washington, 3-0, behind a trio of second half goals Saturday afternoon at the Marra Athletics Complex.

The Colonials (6-5-2, 2-3-0 A-10) scored their three goals in a span of 14 minutes after a scoreless first half, earning the victory over the Bonnies.

Aaron Kornenberg opened the scoring in the 59th minute, heading home a free kick off the foot of Tom Cooklin.

Cooklin assisted on both insurance goals as the Colonials put the game out of reach.

In the 70th minute, Cooklin sent a low pass into the box where Lucas Matuszewski was waiting to punch home the goal. Just over two minutes later in the 73rd, Cooklin fired a corner kick into the scoring area and Elias Norris headed home the score.

The Bonnies (3-7-2, 0-4-1 A-10) had a chance to score in the opening minutes of the contest, but Matthew Wrobel's header rolled just wide of the net.

Bona's goalkeeper Jules Dechert made three saves in net.

Prior to kickoff Saturday, the Bonnies honored John Engerman, C.J. Takatch, Luca Nicastro, Peter Massaquoi and Hunter Allenbaugh for Senior Day.

The Bonnies head out on the road to take on Duquesne in a non-conference matchup Wednesday, Oct. 12. Kickoff is slated for 6:00 p.m.
