The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team returns home to host Binghamton Friday, Dec. 9 at the Reilly Center. Tip is slated for 7:00 p.m.
Friday night will also be Allegany Elementary Night at The RC. All Allegany Elementary students and family members receive free entrance into the game while all students will also receive a voucher for a free popcorn.
OPENING TIP
- The Bonnies look to quickly erase Wednesday's contest from their memory, falling to Little Three rival Canisius, 85-47, at the Koessler Center.
- Nadechka Laccen paced the Bonnies with 12 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists. I'yanna Lops also scored in double figures, chipping in 12 points on 6-of-13 shooting.
- Friday's contest against Binghamton marks just the second time the Bonnies will play at home since Nov. 11.
LOPS AMONG NATION'S BEST
- Senior forward I'yanna Lops continues to be a defensive threat this season, ranking among the nation's best rim protectors. Through nine games this season, Lops has rejected 24 shots, ranking second in the Atlantic 10 and fifth in the NCAA. She is blocking 2.7 shots per game which sits second in the A-10 and 19th in the NCAA.
- Last Wednesday at Bucknell, Lops set the Bonnies single-game blocks record with seven. She broke the previous record of six set by herself last season vs. George Washington, Katie Healy vs. Canisius (2013), Vachelle Manly vs. Columbia (1989) and Angela Scott vs. Indiana (1999).
- Though 59 career games with the Bonnies, Lops ranks fourth all-time on the Bonnies block list with 85 rejections. She is five blocks behind third place all-time of 90 blocks set by Gabby Richmond from 2013-17.
LACCEN ON THE RISE
- Through the first six games of the season, junior guard Nadechka Laccen averaged 6.7 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists in just 24.2 minutes per game. During that span, Laccen only scored in double figures once, pouring in 17 points against Bellarmine at the Viking Invitational.
- Laccen has now scored in double figures in four straight outings, averaging 15.0 points during that stretch. She is playing 31.2 minutes per game while pulling down 6.0 rebounds and handing out 5.0 assists a contest.
- For the season, the San Juan, Puerto Rico native is averaging 10.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. She has started all 10 contests so far in her first season with the Brown and White.
SERIES HISTORY
- The Bonnies and the Bearcats are set to meet for the 13th time Friday evening at the Reilly Center. Bona's has owned the all-time series over Binghamton, 11-1, and have won two straight matchups over the Bearcats. The two sides met last season in Vestal, N.Y. where the Bonnies bested Binghamton, 63-55. The Bonnies are 6-0 all-time against the Bearcats at the Reilly Center.
ABOUT BINGHAMTON
- Binghamton enters Friday's contest 6-5 overall and are coming off a 54-51 overtime victory over Navy Wednesday at home. The Bearcats have wins this season against Fairfield (77-72), Canisius (75-72), Army West Point (76-61) as well as Division II opponents Bloomsburg (63-46) and Pitt-Johnstown (71-45). Binghamton was picked to finish fifth in the America East preseason poll, receiving one first-place vote.
- The Bearcats are coached by Bethann Shapiro Ord who is in her fifth season at the helm of the women's basketball program. She touts a record of 54-63 at Binghamton in four-plus seasons. She arrived in Vestal in 2018 after seven seasons at Weber State.
- Preseason America East All-Conference selection Denai Bowman leads the way offensively for Binghamton, averaging 13.2 points per game while shooting 45.5 percent from the floor. Also averaging double figures for the Bearcats are Genevieve Coleman (10.2 ppg) and Ella Wanzer (10.0 ppg).
