Bonnies Drop 18-7 Decision at YSU In Season Opener

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Senior midfielder Rebecca Howe and sophomore attacker Abby Hiltz both scored two goals, but the Bonnies would fall,18-7, at Youngstown State.
 
Friday afternoon was a tale of two halves for the Bonnies.
 
The Bonnies would score six goals in the first half and only trailed 8-6 at halftime.
 
Hiltz started the scoring early for the Bonnies with the first goal of the season in the opening two minutes of the game. Senior Annie Dombrowski made a nice pass from behind the net to Hiltz, who fired one from close range for the goal.
 
Her second goal came in the second quarter with the assist coming from junior midfielder Caroline Yoder.
 
Howe scored back-to-back goals in the second quarter for the Bonnies. She put a spin move on a Youngstown State defender and created space for her first goal of the season. Approximately a minute later she scored goal number two from the top of the circle.
 
The Laconia, N.H. native flirted with a hat trick, but was turned away in the front of the circle by her former teammate in Youngstown State's goalkeeper Savannah Clarke.
 
Juniors Nora Anderson and Courtney Fox would also record their first goals of the season for the Bonnies during the second quarter.
 
Turnovers would be the Achilles' heel for the Bonnies in the second half of Friday's contest.
 
The Penguins would pull away by scoring 10 goals to the Bonnies one goal in the second half.
 
Leading the way for Youngstown State was sophomore Lauren Ottensmeyer with four goals. Aryss Lindsey and Sydney Bumstead each tallied three goals.
 
Sophomore Maddie Mazur netted the lone goal in the second half for St. Bonaventure, coming off an assist from Hiltz.
 
Against her former squad, Clarke recorded 13 saves in net.
 
In the cage junior Ashley Herrick recorded 12 saves on the afternoon for Bona's.
 
The Bonnies will remain in Ohio to take on Akron on Sunday. Game time is scheduled for noon.
