Davidson Fends Off the Bonnies, 18-5, Despite Third Period Push

DAVIDSON, N.C. – The St. Bonaventure University women's lacrosse team fell at Davidson Sunday afternoon, 18-5.
 
The Wildcats started the game on an 8-0 scoring run that would lead into the second period.
 
Junior Courtney Fox ended Davidson's run by recording her third goal of the season with five minutes left in the first half.
 
The Bonnies, however, were unable to put any more on the board before intermission as Davidson ended the first half with an 11-1 lead.
 
St. Bonaventure (1-11, 0-6 A-10) gave the Wildcats a scare by going on a 4-0 scoring sprint to start the second half, started by Madison Mundenar who was able to put the ball in the back of the net off of a pass from Nora Anderson.
 
Fiona McGovern, Rebecca Howe, and Maddie Mazur were also able to tally goals in the third period.
 
Davidson (11-2, 5-1 A-10) ended the Bonnies' run when Gianna New sent one into the back of the net off of a free position shot with 1:26 left in the third period.
 
The Wildcats would not look back after the goal from New, scoring six times in the final period of play to secure the victory.
 
Preseason A-10 All-Conference goalkeeper Amanda Monahan was pivotal in ending St. Bonaventure's run by making five saves in the third period when Davidson was a man down for the last half of the period.
 
New led Davidson with seven goals, while Julianne Carey added three goals on the afternoon.
 
Monahan finished the game with nine saves in net.
 
For St. Bonaventure, Howe, Anderson, and Abby Hiltz tallied an assist apiece.
 
In the cage Ashley Herrick made seven saves, while Hayley McIntyre recorded a save in the final eight minutes of play.
 
Both teams finished with 13 draw controls in the game with Anderson collecting seven for the Bonnies and Riley Moore earning five for the Wildcats.
 
The Bonnies travel to Virginia for games at Richmond (Thursday, April 14) and VCU (Saturday, April 16). Game time for Thursday is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
