RICHMOND, Va. – The St. Bonaventure University women's lacrosse team was unable to get anything going offensively, falling 16-6, against a very tough defensive team in VCU.
The first period of Saturday afternoon's contest was a defensive battle for both teams.
The Rams scored the first goal of the game off of a free position shot from Juliana George.
Junior
Sarah Owens would answer back with 7:52 left in the first period by scoring off a nice pass out front by
Courtney Fox.
VCU (7-9, 3-5 A-10) closed the first frame with two goals in the final 20 seconds.
The Rams would begin to take control in the second period by tallying five goals to take an 8-2 lead going into halftime.
St. Bonaventure (1-13, 0-8 A-10) would go on a short run in the third period with Owens scoring her second goal of the game, while
Abby Hiltz and
Maddie Mazur each put one in the back of the net.
VCU, however, would continue to put their foot on the gas by scoring six of the final seven goals of the game.
Junior
Nora Anderson tallied the lone goal in the final period for the Bonnies.
Juliana George (four goals), Kelsey McDonnell (two goals), and Abby Osmeyer (two goals) were the leaders for the Rams.
For St. Bonaventure, Hiltz added to her team lead in points with two goals and two assists, while Mazur scored one goal to go along with one assist.
Preseason all-conference goalkeeper Meghna Dawar was key in the Rams victory recording 13 saves on 20 shots.
Ashley Herrick finished the game with 11 saves in the cage.
The Bonnies will return home on Saturday, April 23 for their final conference game of the season beginning at noon vs. Duquesne. The Senior Day ceremony will take place prior to the start of the game.
