ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure Baseball continued its time-honored tradition of honoring its graduating senior class with “last laps” around the Handler Park bases following Saturday’s 2022 season finale.

Prior to that, the Bonnies looked primed for a victory before Saint Joseph’s mounted a stunning rally in the ninth, slamming three home runs in four at-bats to surge from two down for a 5-3 victory.

Bonnies starter Liam Devine took a no-hit bid into the seventh inning before Nate Thomas broke up the no-hitter with a one-out home run to right.

That cut Bona’s lead to 3-1 after the Bonnies grabbed an early three-run advantage, first thanks to a homer from Brendyn Stillman in the second. One inning later, SBU loaded the bases and scored a run when Jackson DeJohn worked a walk and another on a run-scoring groundout from Matthew Williams to pull ahead by three.

Bonaventure had multiple chances to add to its lead but could not, and that would prove costly in the ninth.

Devine coaxed a fly out to begin the inning, but pinch hitter Andrew Cossetti cut the lead to one with a homer to left center. One batter later, Thomas tied it with his second big fly of the day.

With Devine chased from the game, Tim Cavanaugh singled and Brendon Hueth provided the game-winner, another home run ball to right.

Bona got one base runner on a single from Boldt in the last of the ninth, but nothing more.

Devine’s final line showed 8.1 innings of work, four hits and three runs. He walked two and struck out six in a hard luck no-decision.

Boldt, who finished with a team-best .314 season batting average, finished with two of Bona’s six hits while fellow seniors Stillman and Ben Berger had one each.

Following the game, St. Bonaventure honored its eight seniors playing in their final contest in the Brown and White: Berger, Boldt, Stillman, Williams, Branden Myers, Hitch Edwards, Cody Shimp and Adam Shaffer.
