Bonnies, Marist Battle To Dramatic 2-2 Draw in Season Opener

Komori, Torres score for Bonnies during second half

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Freshman Ami Komori and graduate student Cristina Torres both tallied the first goals of the season as the St. Bonaventure University women's soccer team fought to a 2-2 draw at Marist Thursday night in the 2022 season-opener.

All four combined goals came during the second half.

After Marist opened up the second period with the lid-lifter following halftime, Komori scored her first collegiate goal off a chip shot past the keeper in the 56th minute coming from a beautiful back header from senior midfielder Christine Napoli for the tie.

St. Bonaventure was able to continue to apply the pressure on Marist's 2021 MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year Natalie Kelchner.

In the 63rd minute, the Bonnies would take a 2-1 lead when Torres worked behind the Red Foxes defense and deposited a pass from senior defender Kenzie Tarmino into the back of the net.

However, Marist was able to strike again in the 74th minute off a goal from Samantha Caldarelli to knot the score at two apiece, which would end up being the final score.

Bonnies sophomore goalkeeper Chiara Gottinger picked up right where she left off from a season ago for the Brown and White when she was an all-conference performer, turning away nine of Marist's 27 shots.

The Bonnies (0-0-1) were led in the first half by Gottinger's five saves, two of which came in the closing seconds of the half to keep the game scoreless.

Freshmen Allison Drake and Hannah Walker both recorded a shot for St. Bonaventure.

The Red Foxes (0-0-1) were led by Nicole Colantuono who tallied a goal on eight shots as well as and Anna Maggi who fired five shots.

The Bonnies remain on the road with a contest at Cleveland State on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
