Julia Rowland, Kelly Layton Join Bonnies Women’s Lacrosse Coaching Staff

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse head coach LeighAnn Stauffer has announced the hiring of Julia Rowland and Kelly Layton as assistant coaches who will join the staff for the 2023 season.  

"I am very excited for Kelly and Julia to join us as we venture into a new era of St. Bonaventure lacrosse," Stauffer said. "Their prior coaching experience as well as their previous and current playing experience will greatly impact our success. Julia and Kelly will bring a tremendous amount of energy and passion for the game of lacrosse in addition to developing and enhancing the lives of our student athletes."

Rowland comes to St. Bonaventure from Franklin and Marshall College, where she served as the offensive coordinator. While with the Diplomats, Rowland installed multiple offenses and sets. She also served as an assistant varsity coach at Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School and was a head club coach with the Central Lacrosse Club.

Rowland played collegiately at Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. where she was a three-sport athlete, participating in lacrosse, basketball and soccer. She has also played as a member of the Israeli women's lacrosse national team since 2021. This past summer, she played for Team Israel in the Women's World Championships in Maryland.  At World Championships, she netted five goals and two assists while playing in seven games.

She earned her bachelor's degree in Public Policy from Hamilton College and is currently pursuing a Masters in Sports Management from the University of Florida and is also enrolled in a Masters program in the Jandoli School of Communication.

Layton comes to St. Bonaventure from George Washington University, where she served as an assistant coach this past season. While with the Colonials, Layton helped with the day-to-day plans and developments of players on a squad that made the Atlantic 10 Tournament for the first time in 13 years. She also served as the lacrosse coach for the Potomac School as well as a goalie coach for the next level lacrosse club.

Layton was a four-year member of the women's lacrosse program at Millersville University. A goalie during her collegiate career, she worked into a starting role in net for the Marauders. She is also a member of Israeli women's national team. During the World Championships, she started all eight games over the summer. She also played in The World Games 2022 in Birmingham, Ala.

She earned her undergraduate degree in Public Relations and Organizational Communication as well as a Masters in Sport Management from Millersville.
