Women's Lacrosse Names 2026 Team Captains

10/8/2025 4:30:00 PM

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Head women's lacrosse coach LeighAnn Stauffer has announced the program's 2026 team captains. Seniors Brit Colangelo, Kate Hennessey and Brooke Piper have been tabbed as team leaders in their fourth seasons with the program.

"I think it was a no-brainer for the three of them," Stauffer said. "It's been nice to see them move into a leadership role over the past three years. We're proud to announce these three as our captains for the upcoming 2026 season. Over the past three years, they've each played a major role in shaping the culture of our program, leading with integrity, competitiveness, and care for their teammates. They embody what it means to be great people and great leaders, consistently setting the standard both on and off the field. Their commitment and influence have been instrumental in driving the positive culture shift our team has experienced, and we're excited to continue building with them at the helm."

Colangelo, a native of Scarborough, Ontario, is no stranger to the spotlight, having been named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team her freshman year and the conference's First Team in the last two seasons.

Last season, Colangelo's 45 groundballs led the program and were good for third in the conference. Her 34 caused turnovers were no different, leading the team and ranking third in the conference, while also landing her at fourth-most in a season for Bonnies history.

Kate Hennessey, from Pittsford, New York, started in all 18 games last season. She tallied 24 groundballs and 11 caused turnovers last year, totaling 42 and 22 in her career, respectively.

Brooke Piper, of Aurora, Ontario, was named to the Atlantic 10's Second Team in 2024, the conference's First and All-Academic teams in 2025 and an IWLCA Northeast Region Second Team honor that same year. Her 2025 campaign etched new single-season program records for goals (68), points (78), placing her second on the year among all Atlantic 10 players in goals and seventh in points.

"I think that the three of them balance each other out extremely well. I'm excited to see what they do this year," Stauffer said.

The Bonnies have a pair of play days scheduled during fall action: Oct. 19 at SUNY Cortland and Oct. 26 vs. Kent State, Mercyhurst and Le Moyne at St. Bonaventure's Marra Athletics Complex.
