ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure men's basketball team will face six teams that advanced to the national postseason last year as part of the newly released 2022-23 non-conference schedule.
The Bonnies will host Saint Francis (PA) in the home opener Nov. 7 as their new-look squad debuts in the Reilly Center. Other home games include contests against Bowling Green (Nov. 19) and Southern Indiana (Nov. 22) as part of the Gotham Classic.
Bona's will face challenges from two programs that enjoyed success a year ago in their next two home tilts. The Bonnies will welcome Middle Tennessee to Western New York on Nov. 30 as the Blue Raiders come off a 26-11 campaign that saw them post a 13-5 record in Conference USA play before advancing to the CBI championship game.
St. Bonaventure will also take on Cleveland State at home Dec. 7. The Vikings were another 20-win squad a year ago, reaching the semifinals of the Horizon League Tournament en route to an NIT bid.
SBU's home non-conference finale will come on Friday, Dec. 16 as Florida Gulf Coast visits. FGCU finished last year with a 22-12 mark including a 10-6 record in the ASUN.
Road non-conference action will see the Bonnies travel to Canisius (Nov. 12) as well as South Dakota State (Nov. 15) in a game scheduled to take place in the Sanford Pentagon, a neutral site contest by definition but just over 50 miles from SDSU's campus. SDSU finished last year with a perfect record within the Summit League, winning that conference's autobid to the NCAA Tournament after a 30-win season.
Bona will make a second trip to Buffalo Dec. 3 at UB and will also travel to Siena (Dec. 19) to continue the Br. Ed Coughlin Franciscan Cup rivalry. This year's meeting in Albany will mark the 44th meeting all-time between Bonnies and Saints with Franciscan Cup competition beginning in 2010. Since then, the Bonnies are 7-4 in Franciscan Cup games and are in possession of the Cup after a win on home court last year.
The non-conference finale comes Dec. 22 when the Bonnies visit Northern Iowa. A 20-win team last year, the Panthers were Top 100 in the NET and reached the second round of the NIT.
Two marquee neutral court games also highlight the non-conference schedule as the Bonnies head to the Big Apple twice – first to face Notre Dame Nov. 25 in the Gotham Classic at UBS Arena before a Dec. 11 battle vs. Iona at Barclays Center. Both of those teams were postseason bound last year with the Fighting Irish advancing via two NCAA Tournament victories while Iona earned a bid to the NIT with a 25-8 record.
Season ticket renewals are available now for existing Bonnies season ticket holders. Season tickets will go on sale to the general public later this month.
Tickets for the Gotham Classic Showcase Game vs. Notre Dame will also be available through the SBU Ticket Office at a later date.
