ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The St. Bonaventure University women's tennis team began its fall season with a strong weekend showing at the Navy Invitational which began Friday and ran through Sunday.

After falling in her opening round match, freshman Kelly Barnes would rebound to make the "E" flight consolation final.

Barnes received a bye into the consolation semifinals where she defeated Binghamton's Bridget Martin in straight set, 6-2, 6-2. Barnes capped off her first action with the Bonnies by winning the consolation final in a three-set match, 6-2, 4-6, 10-7.

Also leading the way in singles action was freshman Kashish Bote who advanced to the final of flight "D."

Bote battled back from a set down in her opening round match, defeating Hana Kimmey of Mary Washington, 4-6, 6-1, 10-3. In her semifinal match, Bote bested Celina Liu from Johns Hopkins in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Bote, however, fell in the final to Imani Ghosh from Johns Hopkins, 6-4, 6-3.

Amelia Haley and Isabella Venter each moved on to the semifinals of their respective flights for the Brown and White.

Haley took down Hamsa Javagal of Lehigh in her first round match, 6-3, 6-0. She then defeated Taylor Garcia from George Mason, 6-3, 6-4. The senior fell in the semifinals in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3.

In her Bonnies debut, Venter triumphed over Niamh Harding of Johns Hopkins, 6-2, 6-0, in her first round match. She then went on to beat Navy's Kate Lee, 7-5, 6-0, before falling to Lehigh's Megha Dania in the semifinals, 6-4, 6-0.

Junior Anastasia Gubanova advanced to the quarterfinals of the "B" singles flight, taking down Lenien Jamir from Monmouth, 6-3, 6-2.

The Bonnies shined in doubles action as well with all three teams advancing to the consolation finals in each of the three flights.

Gubanova and Venter teamed up to take down Mary Beth Hurley and Julia Xiao from Johns Hopkins, 6-0, and then beat Jacqueline Nannery and Emily Wirt of George Mason, 6-3, to make the finals. The duo came out on top in the "A" consolation finals, defeating Emily Javedan and Essence Wang from Johns Hopkins, 6-3.

Bote and Jansson needed just one win to reach the consolation finals, defeating Amanda Hagino and Madison McCarty from Mary Washington, 6-4. The pair fell in the consolation final, 6-3.

In the "C" doubles flight, Barnes and Haley paired up for two wins leading up to the finals. They bested Binghamton's Brielle DeRoberts and Bridget Martin, 6-0, and then triumphed over Dana Edson and Avleen Waraich from George Mason, 7-5. They would fall, however, in the consolation final in a tiebreak, 7-6.
