Women’s Soccer Opens A-10 Play At Home Thursday vs. Fordham; Travel To Dayton Sunday

The St. Bonaventure University women’s soccer team will begin conference play with a home match against Fordham on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 7:00 p.m. On Sunday the Bonnies will travel to Dayton for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.

STRONG START TO 2022

  • The Bonnies finished conference play unbeaten, ending with a 1-1 draw against Little Three rival Canisius on Wednesday.
  • In program history St. Bonaventure has never previously been undefeated in seven straight games to start the season.
  • Senior Christine Napoli tallied her first goal of the season off a corner from freshman Hannah Walker in the last contest.
  • Walker tallied her first career point in the game.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Chiara Gottinger made nine saves last time out, the fourth time this season she has recorded nine or more stops. 
  • The Bonnies have remained undefeated despite playing the last five games without All-Atlantic 10 performer and 2021 leading scorer Cristina Torres due to injury. Torres tallied 13 goals last season. 
  • Freshman Ami Komori leads the team with three goals and an assist. Kenzie Tarmino has posted four points; Napoli three; and Chanel Alexander, Bridget Kennedy and Torres all have two points apiece.

ATOP DIVISION I

  • Gottinger ranks second in the nation with 58 total saves, trailing only Kierra Cox of South Carolina State who has amassed 60 stops thus far this fall.
  • The Pirching am Traubenberg, Austria native is eighth in the nation and first in the conference in saves per game (8.29).
  • The second-year keeper also ranks 14th nationally and first in the A-10 with a 91 percent save percentage.

ABOUT FORDHAM

  • The Rams have begun the 2022 season with a 1-6 record.
  • Four Fordham players are tied with one goal apiece to start the year, while three players have tallied an assist.
  • In net, Maria O’Sullivan has played four games and recorded 13 saves while Serena Mensah has played in two games and made 13 saves.
  • The Rams fell 4-0 in their last game at Columbia on Sunday.
  • In their last matchup St. Bonaventure fell 1-0 at Fordham on Sept. 22, 2019.

ABOUT DAYTON

  • The Flyers started this season off with a 6-1-1 overall record.
  • Junior Itala Gemelli leads the team with 14 points (six goals/two assists), while Jessica Sheldon and Diana Benigno each have two assists to begin the year.
  • Goalkeeper Batoul Reda has recorded 17 saves this season.
  • In their last game Dayton grabbed a 2-0 win over Akron on Sunday.
  • Gemelli earned a selection as a forward to the 2022 Women's Soccer Preseason All-Conference Team.
  • The Flyers were victorious, 3-1, against the Bonnies last season.
  • Dayton will open up conference play at Davidson on Thursday.
  • Dayton is projected to finish second in the Atlantic 10 with 197 points in the 2022 Women's Soccer Preseason Poll.

UP NEXT

The Bonnies will travel to Virginia to take on VCU on Thursday, Sept. 22. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
