ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure women's soccer senior
Christine Napoli recorded her first goal of the season en route to a 1-1 draw against Canisius Wednesday night at the Marra Athletics Complex.
Canisius (1-2-3) scored the first goal of the game when Madeline Weltin headed a pass from Mia Iacona in the 32
nd minute.
The Bonnies would answer in the 40
th minute on a set piece.
Napoli ran into the box and received the corner kick from freshman
Hannah Walker, depositing the ball past the keeper for her first goal of the 2022 campaign to knot the score at one apiece going into halftime. The assist marks the first collegiate point for Walker.
St. Bonaventure (2-0-5) had several chances to take the lead in the second half.
Senior
Clare Davis dribbled past a defender and took a shot just outside the box in the 66
th minute, but the Canisius goalkeeper made the save.
In the 67
th junior
Lydia Choban got into open space and fired a shot on net, forcing the Canisius keeper to make a diving save.
Sophomore goalkeeper collected nine saves Thursday night which brings her total to 58 stops on the season. She is second in the nation in total saves, trailing only Sydney Bellamy of Southern University.
The Bonnies were led by
Kenzie Tarmino who tallied all three of her shots on goal.
Tiani Fonoti took five shots for the Golden Griffins while Emma Oliphant notched three shots.
In net, Jessica Jones finished with five saves for Canisius.
The Bonnies begin conference play at home against Fordham on Thursday, Sept. 15. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
