The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team returns to action Saturday afternoon on the road at Davidson. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Belk Arena.
OPENING TIP
- The Bonnies look to rebound following a 69-38 defeat at Duquesne Wednesday. The Bonnies were led by Nadechka Laccen with nine points and nine rebounds.
- 11 different players logged points for the Brown and White against Duquesne.
ROAD TO 100
- Senior forward I'yanna Lops continues to close in on her 100th career block as she looks to become just the third player in Bonnies women's basketball history to reach the century mark.
- Through 68 career games donning the Brown and White, Lops has sent back 98 shots and ranks third behind Vachelle Manly, '92 (123 blocks) and Katie Healy, '16 (155 blocks).
- The Stamford, Conn. native currently ranks second in the Atlantic 10 and 13th in the NCAA with 37 blocks. She also stands second in the A-10 and 31st in the NCAA, blocking 2.0 shots per game.
- She registered a career-high 44 blocks during the 2021-22 season, ranking second in the Bonnies record book for a single season. At Bucknell Nov. 30 this season, Lops set the single game blocks record with seven rejections.
- Lops has 13 games during her career with three or more blocks while also registering four games with five or more rejections.
SERIES HISTORY
- The Bonnies and the Wildcats are set to meet for the 12th time Saturday afternoon. Bona's holds the edge in the all-time series over Davidson, 6-5, but the Wildcats have won the last two meeting between the two teams. Davidson took last year's contest, 50-47, at the Reilly Center. The last time the Bonnies played at the Belk Arena was in the first round of the 2021 Atlantic 10 Tournament, falling 69-61.
ABOUT DAVIDSON
- Davidson enters the weekend 7-9 overall and 0-2 in Atlantic 10 play. The Wildcats dropped contests to Dayton (66-60) and Fordham (67-64) to start conference play. Saturday marks just the fifth home game for Davidson this season, touting a record of 3-1 at Belk Arena. Davidson was picked to finish seventh in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll while Elle Sutphin earned preseason All-Conference Second Team accolades.
- The Wildcats are coached by Gayle Fulks who is 79-86 in five-plus seasons. Fulks has guided Davidson to three winning seasons in her first five seasons.
- Sutphin currently sits third in the A-10 and leads Davidson in scoring, averaging 17.6 points per game. Sutphin also ranks second in the conference in field goal percentage (51.4 percent) and third in free throw percentage (85.5 percent). Sutphin also leads the Wildcats in rebounding, pulling down 7.6 boards per contest.
- Suzi-Rose Deegan is second on the team in scoring and rebounding, chipping in 13.4 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.
