Bonnies Battle Bison To Scoreless Draw in Non-Conference Finale

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team battled Bucknell to a 0-0 draw Tuesday evening in the final non-conference game of the fall slate.

The Bonnies (6-5-4) and Bison played an end-to-end first half with both teams generating a chance to open the scoring.

Dean Mercer had the best look of the night for the Bonnies in the 15th minute, however, Bucknell goalkeeper Jake Nicoll was there to make the save.

Bucknell (1-9-3) looked to break the deadlock in the 33rd minute off a corner kick, but senior goalkeeper Jules Dechert was able to make a quick kick save, forcing another corner.

The Bonnies looked to score with time winding down in the first half when Rashid Aroza sent a low cross into the box in the 38th minute, but Daniel Helle was not able to get a foot to the chance as the teams headed into the break scoreless.

Dechert was tested again in the 58th minute, making back-to-back saves on the Bison attack.

The Bonnies offense looked to get something going late in the contest, but the Bucknell backline was able to fend off the SBU attacking chances.

Dechert registered his fifth shutout of the season, making seven saves on the night.

Mattia Ferretti, Umechi Akuazaoku, Andres Javitt, Marius Dahl and Mercer each tallied a shot for the Brown and White.

The Bonnies return home for the final time this season on Saturday when they host Saint Joseph's. Kickoff is slated for 4:00 p.m. at the Marra Athletics Complex as Bona's looks to keep their postseason hopes alive.
