Bonnies Suffer 2-1 Setback Against Saint Joseph’s

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 setback against Saint Joseph's Saturday evening at a rainy and cold Marra Athletics Complex.

In a game played in a consistent rain and wind during the first half, the Hawks got on the board quickly when Alex Hartmann headed home Truls Braendvang's corner kick in the 14th minute. The ball bounced bar down off the crossbar and just barely crossed the goal line for the first score of the contest.

The Bonnies (6-6-4, 2-4-1 A-10), however, were able to register the game-tying goal in the 33rd minute when Kenzo Brito found Rafael Pereira on a through ball behind the defense and Pereira slotted home his third goal of the season.

The two sides remained tied through the end of the first half.

Saint Joseph's (4-11-1, 2-4-1 A-10) was able to pull ahead for good in the 73rd minute when the Bonnies conceded an own goal following a corner kick.

Bona's outshot the Hawks, 11-10, led by Andres Javitt who fired four chances. Pereira and Brito finished with two shots each.

Jules Dechert earned the start in net for the Brown and White, making four saves.

The Bonnies wrap up the regular season Saturday, Oct. 28 on the road at VCU. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
