ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team fell to UAlbany, 66-56, Thursday evening at the Reilly Center.
Tianna Johnson paced the Bonnies with 13 points and five rebounds while Dani Haskell chipped in 11 points and seven rebounds.
UAlbany (3-1) were able to gain control of the contest early on in the first quarter, using a 10-0 run and holding the Bonnies scoreless for nearly six minutes to take a 12-2 lead.
It was more of the same in the second period as the Great Danes extended their lead to 24-8 after a pair of Kayla Cooper free throws with 8:09 showing on the clock.
Kirah Dandridge was able to cut the deficit to seven, 31-24, with 1:37 remaining in the half, but five unanswered points from UAlbany gave the visitors a 37-24 advantage at the break.
Coming out of halftime, the Bonnies (1-2) used a 7-0 run to pull back within eight, 39-31.
Johnson was fouled behind the three-point line as time was ticking down in the third quarter. The senior converted all three shots from the line, cutting the lead down to five heading into the final period.
Down 61-53Â with three minutes remaining, Isabellah Middleton drove the lane for a basket, cutting the UAlbany lead to six points.
That is all the closer the Bonnies would get however as the Great Danes made back-to-back baskets to pull away for good.
The Bonnies are back in action Saturday afternoon on the road at Binghamton. Tip is slated for 1:00 p.m.
GAME NOTES
- Bona's finished the night 20-for-57 (35.1 percent) from the floor while UAlbany finished 24-for-57 (42.1 percent) from the field.
- Maddie Dziezgowski made three 3-pointers, surpassing 100 career 3-pointers. She now has registered 102 threes during her career, ranking 14th all-time as she passed Erica Schiefen, '09.
- The Bonnies outscored the Great Danes in the paint, 24-18.
