Bonnies Fourth Quarter Comeback Falls Short at Binghamton

VESTAL, N.Y. – A fourth quarter comeback fell just short as the St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team fell to Binghamton, 73-65, Saturday afternoon on the road.

Dani Haskell and Tianna Johnson tallied 16 points apiece to lead the Bonnies. Maddie Dziezgowski also finished in double figures with 10 points.

It took until the fourth period for the Bonnies offense to click.

The Bonnies used a 14-0 run spanning over four minutes to pull back within seven, 64-57, following a Claire Cody 3-pointer.

A few possessions later with 3:49 remaining in the contest, Johnson was able to drive the lane for a basket, bringing the Bonnies within two possessions, 69-63.

Johnson was able to make it a four-point game, 69-65, with 58 seconds left on the clock, and the team had multiple opportunities to pull closer, but shots wouldn't fall as the rally came up a little short.

Bona's was forced to foul with under 50 seconds to play as Binghamton made a trio of free throws from the line down the stretch to seal the win.

The Bearcats jumped out to an early 10-point lead in the first period, ending the quarter with back-to-back threes to take a 23-13 advantage.

Binghamton did not let up in the second, pushing their lead to as many as 17 in the second quarter, 42-25.

The hosts got a pair of threes to fall before the end of the half, taking a 47-31 lead into halftime while shooting 54.5 percent (18-for-33) from the floor.

It was all Binghamton to begin the second half as the Bearcats held onto to a double-digit lead throughout the third quarter, taking a 64-43 advantage after three quarters but a 20-9 margin for the Brown and White helped the visitors make it close down the stretch.

The Bonnies (1-3) are back in action Wednesday, Nov. 22 at Buffalo. Tip is slated for 1:00 p.m.
