Women's Basketball Hosts Little Three Rival Canisius Thursday

The St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team returns home for the first time in two weeks to host Little Three rival Canisius Thursday, Nov. 30 at the Reilly Center. Tip is slated for 7:00 p.m.

Thursday is Elementary Night at The RC with all elementary students ages 12 and under as well as their parents receive free admission to the game. All students in attendance will also receive one free popcorn from the concession stand with the voucher given to them upon entry.

OPENING TIP
The Bonnies look to keep momentum in their favor following a 55-51 road victory over Loyola (MD) last Saturday. Bona's was sparked by the return of Nadechka Laccen to the lineup as she tallied 17 points and pulled down seven rebounds. She also knocked down five out of six chances at the free throw line over the final 2:55 to help seal the win.

Isabellah Middleton chipped in 13 points for the second consecutive contest and grabbed six boards while Dani Haskell added 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting.

Saturday marked the first-ever meeting between the Bonnies and the Greyhounds.

SETTLING IN
Senior Dani Haskell and redshirt junior Isabellah Middleton are settling into their new jerseys just fine. Haskell leads the Bonnies through six games in scoring at 16.8 points per game, tallying a pair of 20-points games and scoring in double figures in all five contests she has been available for.

Middleton ranks third on the team in scoring (10.8 ppg), but leads the squad with 30 rebounds, averaging 5.0 per game. She has scored in double figures in three games this season and is shooting 45.0 percent from the floor.

ATLANTIC 10 WEEKLY HONOR ROLL
Haskell earned a spot on the Atlantic 10 Weekly Honor Roll Monday afternoon after averaging 17.0 points on 55.0 percent shooting over two games last week.

She currently leads the Atlantic 10 in free throw percentage, shooting 91.7 percent from the charity stripe and is fifth in the A-10 with 22 made free throws. The Franklinville, N.Y. native also ranks second in the A-10 in scoring (16.8 ppg), minutes per game (35.5) and 3-pointers per game (2.8).

CANISIUS NOTES
Canisius enters Thursday's contest 2-3 to start the season, earning victories over Saint Francis (PA) and D'Youville. The Golden Griffins are coming off a 90-58 loss to Illinois Sunday afternoon. Canisius finished last season 9-21 overall and 6-14 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. The Golden Griffins were picked to finish ninth in the MAAC preseason poll.

The Golden Griffins are coached by Sahar Nusseibeh who is in her third year at the helm, touting a 17-49 record in two-plus seasons in Buffalo. Prior to Canisius, Nusseibeh spent two seasons as the defensive coordinator at Miami (OH).

The Golden Griffins are led by MAAC Preseason All-Conference Third Team selection Sisi Eleko who is averaging a 17.8-point, 11.2-rebound double-double through the first five games. She is shooting 53.1 percent from the floor and is averaging 27.6 minutes per game.

SERIES HISTORY
The Bonnies and Golden Griffins are set to meet for the 58th time Thursday evening with SBU holding a slight edge in the all-time series, 29-28. Canisius, however, has won four out the past six matchups between the schools, including an 85-47 victory over the Bonnies last season where then Canisius guard Dani Haskell tallied a career-high seven assists.

Bona's is 19-7 all-time vs. Canisius at the Reilly Center while head coach Jim Crowley is 12-1 all-time against the Golden Griffins. Crowley coached teams have won the past 10 meetings between the Brown and White and Golden Griffins. His only loss against Canisius came Dec. 17, 2005, falling 77-67.

UP NEXT
The Bonnies face a quick turnaround as they travel to Morgantown to take on West Virginia Saturday, Dec. 2. Tip is slated for 12:00 p.m. at the WVU Coliseum.
