NIAGARA, N.Y. – Four first quarter goals by Niagara proved to be too much for the St. Bonaventure women's lacrosse team, as they fell 13-5 to the Purple Eagles in the season opener Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Brooke Piper began her Bonnies career with two goals, while Jessica Notaro, Sarah Owens, and Meg Schillinger, each registered a goal apiece.
 
St. Bonaventure (0-1) fell behind the purple eagles by a 4-1 disadvantage at the end of the first quarter with their lone goal coming from the Sophomore Notaro, who connected on her only shot attempt of the match.

Piper would help decrease the Bonnies deficit on an unassisted goal with 11:09 left in the second quarter. Sarah Owens would add another goal as the Bonnies entered the half trailing 8-3.
 
In the second half, St. Bonaventure would get a second goal from Piper, who was assisted by fellow freshman Grace Hollenbeck, and adding the freshman success was Meg Schillinger, who found the back of the net with 9:19 left in the match. But the lack of shot attempts for the Bonnies deemed too much to overcome on the afternoon.   
 
In the cage, Ashley Herrick made 14 saves for the Bonnies.

The Purple Eagles outshot the Bonnies 39-11, connecting off 10 assists and forcing 22 St. Bonaventure turnovers.
 
Niagara (1-0) was led by Lois Garlow and Andra Savage, who each had four goals, while five other purple eagles players also found the back of the net during the match.
 
Niagara goalkeepers Jordan Roy and Emma Mielke tallied 14 saves in split time.
 
The Bonnies welcome to town Little Three rival Canisius for their home opener on Wednesday, February 15. The game is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
