EMMITSBURG, MD – Emily Piergustavo's three RBI afternoon lifted the St. Bonaventure University softball team to a 4-2 victory over Mount St. Mary's in eight innings Saturday afternoon on the road.
Piergustavo finished the game 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI doubles and a sacrifice fly.
Piergustavo was able to belt a ball over the right fielder's head in the top of the eighth, scoring Brooke Bobbey and giving the Bonnies a 3-2 advantage.
Bona's plated a second run in the eighth on a Juanita Wolak RBI groundout, giving the Bonnies the road victory.
The Bonnies broke through on the scoreboard first in the top of the third inning when Piergustavo scored Brooke Bobbey on a sacrifice fly.
Grace Walker belted a two-out triple to right field in the top of the fifth inning and Piergustavo brought her home in the next at-bat with an RBI double that fell just in front of an outstretched Mount St. Mary's defender, pushing the Bonnies ahead, 2-0.
Mount St. Mary's was quick to strike back, tying the game in the bottom of the fifth.
The Mount scored their first run of the game on a double to right-centerfield and then plated the tying run on a safety squeeze.
Emily Phelan got the ball Saturday, tossing the complete game to go along with five strikeouts while allowing just five hits.
The Bonnies return to the field Sunday with matchups against Central Connecticut State and Mount St. Mary's. First pitch is slated for 10:00 a.m.
