BRONX – The St. Bonaventure University softball team held off a Fordham rally, winning 5-3 Saturday morning on the road.
Elyse Graham and Juanita Wolak each registered a pair of hits in the contest.
The Bonnies (5-13, 1-3 A-10) jumped on the board first in the top of the second inning when Graham lined a hit into left field that brought Olivia Whitecar around to score.
Bona's added four insurance runs in the top of the fourth. Brooke Bobbey started the scoring after she reached on a fielder's choice, plating Madison Stewart. A few batters later, with two strikes and two outs, Emily Piergustavo punched a single through the right side of the infield, clearing the bases and giving the Bonnies a 5-0 lead.
The Rams (7-13, 0-1 A-10) cut into their deficit in the bottom of the fifth, scoring a pair of runs on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly.
Fordham got another run back in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI groundout, making the score 5-3.
The hosts led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a double, looking to rally.
Emily Phelan, however, recorded outs on the next three batters, earning the victory. She finished the contest with seven strikeouts and walked two.
Olivia Moon and Stewart also registered hits for the Bonnies.
The Bonnies and Rams are back in action Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m.
