Fordham Sweeps Doubleheader From Bonnies Sunday

BRONX – The St. Bonaventure University softball team dropped an Atlantic 10 doubleheader to Fordham Sunday afternoon on the road.

The Bonnies dropped game one, 10-2, and fell short in game two, 4-2.

Game 1 – Fordham 10, St. Bonaventure 2 (F/5)
The Rams jumped out to an early lead, plating seven runs in the bottom of the second. Fordham tallied five hits in the inning to go along with a walk and a sacrifice fly.

Fordham added an insurance run in the bottom of the third, making the score 8-0.

Abby Suhr got the Bonnies on the board in the top of the fourth, belting her first career home run over the left field fence, scoring Juanita Wolak on the play and pulling the Bonnies back within six, 8-2.

The Rams, however, scored in the bottom half of the fourth and fifth to earn the victory.

Emily Phelan started for the Bonnies, working 1.1 innings while Elizabeth Lis pitched in relief. Lis tossed 3.0 innings and struck out a pair.

Brooke Bobbey collected two hits for the Brown and White and Wolak added a double.

Game 2 – Fordham 4, St. Bonaventure 2
Fordham scored first in game two, singling home the first run of the ballgame with a single in the bottom of the first.

Devon Miller doubled the Rams lead in the bottom of the second with a solo home run.

The Rams (9-14, 2-1 A-10) added runs in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 4-0 lead late in the ballgame.

The Bonnies looked to rally in the top of the seventh when Bobbey doubled home Kennedy Haberl, pulling the Bonnies back within three. Emily Piergustavo reached on an error a few batters later that scored Bobbey, making the score 4-2.

That is all the closer the Bonnies (5-15, 1-5 A-10) would get as Fordham recorded the final two outs, earning the win.

Phelan struck out five in a complete game effort. With her second strikeout in game two, Phelan moved into fifth place on the Bonnies all-time strikeout list.

Haberl registered a doubled while Elyse Graham and Olivia Whitecar added singles.

The Bonnies are back in action Wednesday, March 29 on the road at Youngstown State.
