Flyers Power Past Bonnies

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team fell to Dayton in an Atlantic 10 doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Joyce Field.

The Flyers bested the Bonnies, 7-3, in game one and powered past the Brown and White in game two, 23-0.

Game 1 – Dayton 7, St. Bonaventure 3
The Flyers jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage, scoring one in the top of the first and plating a pair in the second inning, all on RBI singles.

Dayton struck for two more runs in the top of the third, scoring on an RBI single and a sacrifice fly, extending the lead to 5-0.

The Bonnies pulled two runs back in the bottom half of the third, starting with an RBI double off the bat of Abby Suhr. Kennedy Haberl dropped a single into center field in the next at-bat, scoring Suhr from second and making it a three-run game.

Dayton pushed it back to a four-run ballgame in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly.

Haberl drove in her second run of the game with a line drive single up the middle, scoring Grace Walker from second and cutting the deficit to three.

The Flyers put the game out of reach with an insurance run in the top of the seventh, scoring on an error.

Emily Phelan struck out five in the complete game effort, allowing just one free pass.

Game 2 – Dayton 23, St. Bonaventure 0 (F/5)
Dayton pulled away early in game two, scoring six runs in the top of the second inning to take a commanding 7-0 lead and never looked back.

The Flyers added eight runs in the third and seven in the fourth to put the game out of reach for the hosts.

Dayton belted four home runs in the contest, led by Kaelene Walter with two round-trippers.

Elizabeth Lis, Macy Miller and Lyndsay Flippin all pitched for the Bonnies.

The Bonnies are back in action Saturday afternoon when they kickoff a three-game Atlantic 10 series on the road at UMass.
