AMHERST, Mass. – The St. Bonaventure University softball team fought off a late-inning rally to defeat UMass, 2-1, in the series finale Sunday afternoon on the road.

Emily Phelan picked up her eighth win in the circle, fanning three and scattering six hits. Elizabeth Lis earned her first career save, working the final 2.1 innings and allowing a pair of hits.

The Bonnies were able to breakthrough on the scoreboard and take the lead in the top of the third inning.

Abby Suhr drove home Reanna Perkins with an RBI groundout for the first run of the contest. Kennedy Haberl followed her up with an RBI single to center field, scoring Brooke Bobbey and giving the Bonnies a 2-0 advantage.

The Minutewomen were able to cut Bona's lead in half in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single down the left field line.

UMass was able to get the tying run aboard in the bottom of the sixth, but the Bonaventure defense was able to turn a clutch double play to end the threat.

Bobbey finished the contest with two hits while Juanita Wolak, Perkins and Suhr registered a hit apiece.

The Bonnies return home to host Niagara Tuesday, April 18 at Joyce Field. First pitch is slated for 3:00 p.m.
